Day 1 Trouble in Pennsylvania
Oh Let the Epics Begin!!! There’s nothing quite like a good thrashing on the first day of a 500 day voyage. About 300 miles into a 9700 mile road trip Matt and I have had our first (I am assured that this is indeed our “first” of supposedly many) set backs. As Matt put it, “we straight broke down.” Matt was driving first shift late last night whilst I was intently preparing for the second driving shift (through a Jambalaya induced slumber!) when he found that he could no longer put the car into gear. Matt was a rockstar and had negotiated most of the logistics before my eyes had fully opened. To increase the drama surrounding our departure the tow truck happened to show up only ten minutes before a huge storm raged through the area with 60 mph winds. Apparently the civic’s going to need a new transmission, which will cost a pretty penny, but our spirits can’t be crushed … we dug deep, remembered the rose, and set our sights on problem solving. We should be on the road again by tonight! Ain’t no big thing! And the epics continue …
Did you forget to show Matt how to use a clutch? Was he slammin’ the gears all Alabama bootlegger style? Glad it all worked out and now you have a new transmission for the mountains! And if you just “Remember The Rose”………
