Day 10 Oh Canada
Our visit in Central Oregon was really special. Matt and I had stopped to see my good friends Sierra and the great Scottish Brian. The visit was excellent, but too short. We climbed some and I worked on a dog obedience instructional video with Sierra (you can check out an excerpt here). Soon Matt and I were on our way North. Apparently crossing the Canadian border is harder than one would imagine. As it turns out, Matt and I are highly suspicious characters. Perhaps it was Matt’s beard, or maybe it was the fact that we only had $20 in Canadian currency. Whatever the cause, the lady at the border crossing booth informed us that “we needed to go inside to talk to immigration services.” It’s like they knew I wanted to defect from the US to live in Vancouver! After many questions and much sweating (on our part) we were allowed into this beautiful country! We quickly realized that Canadians don’t really understand the meaning of the word “highway” as we took “highway” 99 toward Squamish. We found ourselves winding through the heart of Vancouver on what could only be described as back roads and side streets. What is more is that we probably hit every stoplight in the city! Miraculously, we avoided becoming hopelessly lost and arrived in Squamish late on Wednesday night. Much to our chagrin, we discovered that there were no available campsites. Being the resourceful individuals that we are however, we found the perfect place for a good night’s rest. We slept Commando style, hidden under a powerline tower. Between the humming of the powerlines and the construction blasting along hwy 99, we were lulled to sleep and well prepared for the next day’s 12 hour epic enduro climbing fest!!! Matt and i were so excited that we climbed all day on Thursday with only a short midday respite. Halfway through the day we randomly ran into one of my climbing friends, Dan!!! We had a blast hanging out with him the rest of the day as we tried desperately to push through and continue climbing. Hands raw and muscles sore, we finally retired for the day at sunset and found ourselves a nice new campsite -one that was a little more legit. Today is a quiet rest day for Matt and I, but soon some friends will join us here and the adventure will continue … We love this place and we’re really looking forward to seeing and hearing from ya’ll! Ciao, Eric

WOW! Again, beautiful pictures from Canada. Wonder why the Canadians did not welcome such handsome young men with open arms! Thanks for another adventure vicariously. All my love always, Mom and Mike as well as Amanda and Beth
