Day 15 My Tips Hurt….

….really bad. For the readers who are climbers, you totally understand. Everyone else…imagine taking some sandpaper (rough grade of course) and rubbing your finger tips over it really hard for hours or until all your tips are raw. This is exactly why I’m taking a solo rest day. Yeah, I know, everyone else is climbing on this spectacular weather day and I’m at a coffee shop online…i’m still in Squamish though. We had two friends join us this last Saturday. Right before the sun crept behind the mountains, Jen and Gina pulled up in a rented Subaru Outback with big smiles. I didn’t feel bad greeting them with a hug since I had spent much of that rainy day in a hot tub, steam room, pool, shower and coffee shop:). Ahh the bennefits of the Leisure Center only 5 minutes down the road. For 4 dollars, you can hang out all day doing all the water activities you would like including showers!! We’ll probably hit that up at least once a week…tomorrow sounds good. The week started off kinda dreary with rain for the first 2 days of the girls visit. We actually got to climb on one of the rain days. There is an area called Gibbs Cave which doesn’t really get wet considering its overhung. There were a lot of good hard problems under there. I think we all have projects now. The other rain day, we checked out this really cool waterfall only a 20 minute hike away. It was worth the hike, however I was breathing kinda heavy compared to Jen who kept having to wait on me to catch up. God blessed us with beautiful weather today and yesterday, which makes climbing even better. We’ve done a ton of classic beautiful boulder problems which are only elevated by the storybook surroundings of Squamish. We are all having an amazing time here. Hopefully the rain will continue to stay far away so we can have many more good climbing days. It’s been just over 2 weeks on the road. I figured at this point I would have an idea of how I will deal with living on the road for an extended period of time….basically, I love it. I can’t speak for Eric, but I am having a blast. The lack of showers, heat/AC, and other luxuries is pretty easy to get used to. So, in a nutshell: the trip is amazing; climbing is storybook; the people we have met are great; and yes, we might smell a little. To anyone who tries to call us: Eric’s phone is usually dead and my phone will be turned off until we get back to the states (59cents a minute adds up). Comments here or email will be the best.To Mario and Stuart: Can’t wait for ya’ll to bring fury.To All: Miss you all very much and hope your life is blessed as much as my experience has been thus far.I posted more pics in the Squamish Gallery section. You “might could” check’em out.Taker Easy,-Matt
