Day 21 Bear Aware…

…is what they kept preaching to us since we pulled into Squamish. I didn’t believe them, or at least didn’t take them too serious….Yep, we saw one. Big black one. Maybe not too big, but he definitely could have eaten me or at the very least, all our food. He was basically in downtown Squamish, right down from the Adventure Center; where I am currently typing this. Mario and Eric were in a car in front of me and Jen. I think we all spotted it at the same time, because we all came to a screeching hault to have gander at an animal that could be higher on the food chain, without the help of guns. Mario managed to snag a picture before the local women behind the caravan pulled around us in a mad fury. I can only imaging what she was saying about us. I personally wished the bear would have eaten her…only kidding:) When we got done climbing yesterday, some folks around the camp said a bear had been hanging out in the parking lot wanting some food. A bunch people also said they saw the bear around some of the boulder problems not too far in the woods. Basically, there are bears around and we should probably take the rangers seriously and not leave honey in our tents. Eric has been know to take all the chocolate chip cookies to bed with him.Jen left us last night and is probably in transit, as I type, back to Baltimore. Jen, so glad you got to come. You will be missed. By the way, Jen climbed amazing this week. She did some really cool problems. The highlights include: Sit Start to Holmboy, Viper, and Swank Stretch. Gina left, then Jen, and Mario will probably be leaving tonight or tomorrow. Mario and Eric are currently climbing the Chief. It’s like 10 pitches, so Mario might be too exhausted to leave when he gets off the mountain. So basically, our camp has room for two more tents as of tomorrow. All are welcome. Please come climb with us!! We def. enjoy having people come visit.Eric, obviously being too modest, didn’t mention in his last post that he had just finished crushing Tatonka (meaning buffalo…ever watch Dances With Wolves). Basically he tried about 3 times, sent the problem, then said: “I gotta go into town and make some calls and do some stuff online.” Then proceeded to leave us in confused wonder.I put some more pictures up today. Some climbing, some hanging, and a few of our epic hike up the Chief. They should be the last added to the Squamish section. Stay Tuned b/c there is more to come. I’m actually going to go climb now. I should probably take a shower…kinda stink and have k-mart feet but that’s nothing some Old Spice, antibacterial hand sanitizer (that we use as bodywash), and Nag Champa can’t cover up. Taker Easy,-Matt

I miss you guys (and Squamish) sooo much already! And you know that I’m not just saying that. I just made it home after one seriously drawn out travel day. Sore, briused, scraped up, and very happy. I’ll be back next year to tick off Golden Boy. I really am reluctant to go back to the real world… you know, that one where I have a mortgage & job?
That beautiful crisp full moon had an eclipse that I got to watch on my drive down to Seattle. All the more beautiful because it was unexpected. Oh, and Matt, my coffee this morning paled in comparison to every morning this past week both in quality and in company.
    Cheers,
    Jen
