Day 98 Rain??

So I had almost forgotten what rain was, being that the rain that woke us from our slumber Saturday night was only the second time we have seen liquid sunshine since arriving in Bishop.  Like every night, me and Eric were sound asleep in our sleeping bags comfortably on our crash pads.  We have basically given up on tents since the winds pretty much destroyed them.  We stay warm under the stars because we both have two sleeping bags each.  Eric double bags every night.  I, on the other hand, get in one bag (-20degree down bag) and use the other as a pillow/head wrap.  About the time we both had stopped reliving our sends from our Saturday session (Eric- Ten Pin Trials V8 in 4 burns and Me- Flyboy first go…finally)  the rain started falling.  Somewhat prepared, we managed to attach one end of our tarp to Betty (our car) and used two carefully balanced palates (we stole from the Vons) for the other corners.  We both barely fit under the tarp with our crash pads.  My pad got pretty wet from the drips off our redneck shelter.  The run off also began to splash me in the face after the edges of the pad got really soaked.   I think we might could have fallen asleep with just the rain, but the wind began to blow a bit.  This caused more rain to hit us and we also realized at any point in time our carefully balanced palates could fall on our heads.  We didn’t get much sleep that night, but Sunday was a rest day anyways…..so it didn’t matter too much.We spent all day in town.  We just chilled at the Black Sheep Coffee Shop, built some walls for Kevin’s shed, and watched a weird movie.  When we finally got back to camp, it had got pretty late….it was about 8pm.  I know that is totally sad but thats about when we’ve been going to bed every night.  After it gets dark, you eat, drink a beer and sit by the fire, then you realize you are sooo tired so you go to bed.  It is nice to wake up totally refreshed and see the sun rise with ten hours of sleep under your belt.  This night however, was not going to be an early night.  Our carefully tarp-wrapped crash pads were soaking wet…again.  Apparently, our tarp leaks.  The best fix we could think of was to make a huge fire to dry the pads.  It totally worked.  Not only did the pads dry by the fire, but they were toasty warm when we went to bed.  All seemed to be back to normal…..that is until this morning.  Our pads and sleeping bags are wet again by a half inch of frost.  The forecast is sunny, so the sun should dry everything by tonight.  It was cool having frost all over my beard when I woke up.  I felt like a true man of the mountains. That pretty much wraps up the weekend except for the boring details of our climbing session.  Just know it was good.  I hope you all got a laugh from the wet pad epic.  We both definitely had a smile the whole time.  With only a few days left in Bishop, we are probably gonna climb everyday this week and hopefully finish some projects before we leave. Two days until we brake 100 Days!!  Hope this post finds everyone happy and well.  Taker Easy-Matt

Matt–I’m glad you decided to want Flyboy enough to send it, I’m super proud of you bro, another mental victory to help strengthen your confidence. Funny how similar it is that sending a project you had to fight for strengthens your belief in yourself much like adversity in life can strengthen your faith in God, through perseverance. Good job to you too Eric, can’t wait to meet you when you make it out to the Dirty South. Make your last week so good it is a blur. Take it easy.
