Day 100 A Glorious Day

Today Matt, Matt, Isabelle, Kevin, and I finished Kevin’s shed!!! It’s actually more like a small house rather than a shed. The thing is massive. I mean really massive! Some might even say it’s gargantuan. Take a look at the pictures and don’t act like your not impressed. Kevin has been super generous to let us hang with him for the past month so it felt really good to give back some and to help him on such a large project (not to mention the cross training has been tremendous!).  I think he appreciated the extra hands. With only two days left in Bishop, Matt has opted to rest his hurt shoulder and his tendons until we reach Hueco at the end of November. His spirits remain high though for he’s super stoked to visit his brother in San Diego (Pronounced Saaaan Deee-ahhh-go) for Thanksgiving. As our time here is coming to a close, I find my heart weighing a little heavy as it’s going to be sad and tough to leave our good friends. We’re really going to miss Kevin, Matt, and Isabelle.  The time that we have spent here just would not have been the same had we not met these great people.Recently, I’ve also been feeling a bit nervous and anxious because very soon I will face a huge (and extremely personal) climbing challenge! I have been projecting a climb in Joshua tree over the past six years (only a dozen or so actual attempts) and this weekend we will go there so that I may have yet another attempt. The climb is called Equinox. The beautiful climb stands alone in the desert rising 80 feet above the J-trees. A perfect splitter finger crack that arches through a blank, and slightly overhanging granite face towards the the deep wild blue yonder. Although by grade it is not as hard as other climbs that I have climbed, it is by far (as far as personal challenges go) the toughest thing I have ever faced. The climb has tremendous sentimental value for me and I think that emotional involvement adds to the difficulty. I will be thinking of you Carl! We’ll let ya’ll know how the face-off goes!Ciao, Eric
