Day 118 Stuart…

….brought us much needed motivation and fury when he arrived yesterday afternoon.  He got into the El Paso International Airport around 1 and we were climbing by 3.  Stuart’s only goal for his week stay in Hueco was to crush Mushroom Roof.  We only had a few hours to climb yesterday but we all managed to come really close to sending it on our first session.  I don’t think it will really be a project.  I’m sure we’ll all send it first go tomorrow morning. Before I go on, let me tell you about Eric almost dying/killing someone else when we were climbing on Friday.  Originally only doing moderate climbs in preparation for Stuart’s arrival, we decided to try See Spot Run.  It’s considered a HighBall, but after Bishop, nothing seems that high.  Anyways, Eric makes a move to the top and his feet cut.  He swings out almost horizontal….at this point, if he would have let go he would have totally missed all the pads, probably shot right into a tree and landed on two of his spotters from a good distance up.  Somehow he managed to keep it together and not fall to the relief of us all.  At one point Eric said he even heard a very loud exhale of relief from below.  Nice send bud.  I’m glad you didn’t die:)Hueco is treating us good so far.  We found a nice FREE campground close to the Rock Ranch and the park.  Anyone coming to Hueco, we can give you the directions.  It has warmed up a bit from our initial arrival.  Instead of mid 20s at night I think it is around the 40s now.  It also seems like it may be sunny for the rest of our trip too.  Hueco is supposed to be in the desert but it got about a foot of snow Thanksgiving weekend and it rained Thursday, Friday, and Saturday….go figure….Friday night we went out to New Mexico with Praire, our friend we met in Squamish.  We got to chill in some hotsprings and sleep in this really cool guys apartment.  Thanks Beasterner.  We got to meet some really nice people and had a really good time. The count down is on.  With only two weeks left in Hueco before we head back for Xmas, we feel the rush to climb as much as possible.  We have our sights on some nice lines and will be psyched to finish them up.  Hueco should be a good end to our western tour with Stuart and a couple other out to climb with us.  As long as we stay healthy and I keep Eric in Port (I’ll do my best Ian) it should be amazing. If you have not already checked them out, there are two new videos up…For all those concerned, my rage infection is subsiding….the eye looks better everyday. One last thing to our friends in Bishop:   Kevin, congrats on the send.  Matt and Isa, congrats on the crushing rampage.  Brandon, can’t wait to climb with ya in South Africa….totally pumped.Taker’ Easy-Matt
